Software as a service, or on-demand software, is a software delivery model where software and its associated data are hosted centrally and accessed by users using a web browser.
SaaS has become a common delivery model for most business applications including:
• Accounting
• Collaboration
• Customer relationship management (CRM)
• Enterprise resource planning (ERP)
• Invoicing
• Human resource management (HRM)
• Content management (CM)
• Service desk management
SaaS providers generally price applications using a monthly or annual subscription fee resulting in initial SaaS setup cost stand lower than the equivalent enterprise software. A key driver of SaaS growth is the vendors’ ability to provide a price that is competitive with on-premises software and global access through wifi connectivity.
